Uluru

Uluru is our toddler room, and it’s the year you start meeting who your child is going to be. They’re learning to speak, learning to be a friend, and working through feelings far bigger than they are.

The toddlers room

Room to try, and somewhere to come back to.

Toddlers test everything: what pours, what stacks, what happens if they walk away. The room gives them real materials to test it on, at their height, without an adult reaching in first.

It is also the age of big feelings. Calm corners let a child pause, watch or sit with an educator, and coming back to the group is treated as part of the day rather than a failure of it.

Where to next

The best way to understand this room is to stand in it.

What the room is set up for

Four things the Uluru room is arranged around.

Doing it themselves

Low sinks, reachable shelves and their own hooks: the small independences that matter enormously at two.

Open-ended materials

Timber, cloth, stones, containers. Things with no single right use, which is where language and problem solving come from.

Calm spaces

Somewhere to sit out of the noise without leaving the room, for a child who needs a minute rather than a rule.

Words for feelings

Educators name what is happening as it happens, so a child gets language for frustration before they need it.

What families ask about the toddlers room

The questions that come up on nearly every tour.

  • Toilet learning

Started when your child shows they are ready, and run the same way at the centre as at home so there are not two sets of rules.

  • Still sleeping

Most two-year-olds still rest after lunch, and there is a bed for every child who wants one. Nobody is woken to keep to a schedule.

  • Biting and grabbing

Ordinary at this age, and handled as communication rather than misbehaviour. Families hear about it from us rather than from another parent.

  • Moving up to Daintree

Around three, once a child is ready for a bigger group and a longer day. The move is planned with you, not announced to you.

Staying connected

Part of Their Day, Even When You’re Not There

Through OWNA, families can stay connected with their child’s day at Brighter Beginnings. Educators share daily updates, important information and messages, helping you stay informed while your child is in our care.

You’ll also find centre information and seasonal menus in one convenient place, so you know what’s happening and what your child has been offered throughout the day. OWNA is also used to securely complete enrolment when your family is ready.
