Another way in

Children learn in many different ways.

That's why we've included weekly Arkki incursions in our preschool program, at no additional cost to families. Arkki is a creative education program developed in Finland, where children learn to think, design and solve problems through architecture. It builds on the learning already happening in the room, and gives children another way in.

Play & Create

The first stage of a curriculum that runs to nineteen.

Our preschoolers take part in Play & Create, the first stage of an Arkki curriculum that continues all the way to age nineteen.

What arrives together

Designing a building means thinking about several things at once, which is the point of it.

Materials

What a thing is made of, and what that lets it do: the first question any design asks.

Structure

What holds it up. Children test, fail and rebuild, which is engineering before it has a name.

Measurement

How big, how far, how many: mathematics arriving because the build needs it.

People and place

Who the building is for and where it sits, which is where design becomes about somebody else.

Play & Create, in the room

The first stage of a curriculum that runs to nineteen, as it looks in a preschool room.

  • Weekly, not occasional

Arkki incursions run every week as part of the preschool program.

  • Included

At no additional cost to families.

  • Hands on

Children build, rather than being shown a building.

  • STEAM together

Science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics arriving in one activity.

  • Another way in

For a child whose thinking shows itself in making rather than in talking.

  • A real curriculum

Play & Create is stage one of an Arkki program that continues to age nineteen.

What Arkki is

Architecture might sound like an unusual thing to teach a preschooler. It turns out to be the perfect thing.

Designing a building means thinking about materials, structure, measurement, people and place all at once, so science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics arrive together, without a child ever sitting through a lesson on any of them.

Staying connected

Part of Their Day, Even When You’re Not There

Through OWNA, families can stay connected with their child’s day at Brighter Beginnings. Educators share daily updates, important information and messages, helping you stay informed while your child is in our care.

You’ll also find centre information and seasonal menus in one convenient place, so you know what’s happening and what your child has been offered throughout the day. OWNA is also used to securely complete enrolment when your family is ready.
