Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef is our nursery, and for most families it’s the first time their child has been in care. First words, first steps and first friendships all happen at the baby’s own pace.

The infants room

A day that follows your child, not a timetable.

Babies do not arrive on a schedule, so the room does not run on one. Sleeps, bottles and nappies happen when each child needs them, and educators keep families posted through the day.

The regulations set one educator to every four children under two: the closest ratio in the centre, and the reason an infant here is known rather than supervised.

Where to next

The best way to understand this room is to stand in it.

Inside the Great Barrier Reef room

What the room is set up for

Four things the Great Barrier Reef room is arranged around.

Sleep on demand

A separate cot room, darkened and quiet, so a child sleeps when they are tired rather than when the room is.

Floor-level play

Low, open shelving and soft flooring, so a child who is rolling, crawling or pulling up can reach what interests them unaided.

Sensory materials

Treasure baskets, textures, water and natural objects: the way babies investigate before they have words for it.

One primary educator

A familiar face who knows the routine your child arrived with, so settling in is a handover rather than a start from nothing.

What families ask about the infants room

The questions that come up on nearly every tour.

  • Bringing your own routine

Sleep times, bottle amounts and comfort items come with you. Educators work to the rhythm your child already has rather than asking them to adopt a new one.

  • Meals and bottles

Meals are freshly prepared on site. Bottles, expressed milk and first foods are handled to the plan you set with the room.

  • Hearing about the day

Sleeps, feeds, nappies and the moments in between are recorded and shared, so the day does not end at the door.

Staying connected

Part of Their Day, Even When You’re Not There

Through OWNA, families can stay connected with their child’s day at Brighter Beginnings. Educators share daily updates, important information and messages, helping you stay informed while your child is in our care.

You’ll also find centre information and seasonal menus in one convenient place, so you know what’s happening and what your child has been offered throughout the day. OWNA is also used to securely complete enrolment when your family is ready.
